Unscrambling the emotional messages of the body
Why is it that some people bloat up after eating bread and others don’t? Why is it that some react really badly after consuming certain types of food? There is no doubt that the body is conveying an important message, so unscrambling this should be invaluable for better health. Surely it can’t just be the food that causes such terrible reactions and infuriating ‘allergies’? If it was, then everybody would react in exactly the same way.
Perhaps it is something much deeper that is not being tolerated. Could the body be using food to draw attention to situations that have become absolutely intolerable? After all, it periodically does this through a host of symptoms, each of which has its own emotional tale to reveal profound unhappiness within the soul.
Interestingly, only a relatively small percentage of individuals are actually adversely affected by certain foods and, amongst these, no two react in exactly the same way. Some, for instance, may experience breathing difficulties, others might develop migraines, then there are those who are more prone to vomiting, whilst there are others who come up with an epiphany of irritating skin conditions. So where exactly does such extreme sensitivity come from? Why do some people react really badly, whilst others remain completely unaffected? What is it that is causing such a profoundly unpleasant effect within them?

How so?
Let’s take ‘wheat’ for example. Not everybody feels bloated after eating a slice of bread or particularly uncomfortable after downing a bowl of cereal. So what’s up with the body? What’s it trying to say? In this scenario, ‘wheat’ phonetically sounds like ‘we eat’. In the olden days, there had to be bread on the table otherwise the chances of survival were extremely slim. With wheat being the main ingredient of bread, it, in time, became subconsciously perceived as the ‘essential ingredient’ for survival.
Further clues can be gained with the realisation that wheat, being harvested in autumn, is also associated with ‘reaping the rewards of one’s labours’. This links it to the lower digestive tract, which takes the best out of food, in other words ‘life’s experiences’(another story!), for personal growth and development. These go ‘hand in hand’ with the amount of perceived ‘give and take’ within relationships. Whether these are fair or not doesn’t actually matter; it’s whether they have become an issue, upsetting mind and body, that matters. This is why everybody reacts differently to similar circumstances. Some go with the flow, others don’t! If it’s an issue then it invariably shows up in the tissue. The ‘t-issue’ reflects ‘t-he issue’.
Since it is human nature to react badly whenever innermost needs and desires are not met, it’s hardly surprising that the body is going to do the same. It so perfectly mirrors all soul issues and, if things are not going well, it too will react badly. It does this through symptoms of distress, drawing attention to deeply dissatisfying issues. ‘Wheat’ is one of the foods it uses to reveal that an unsavoury situation, which has been on the boil for a while, has become absolutely intolerable. It highlights that an ‘essential ingredient’ is missing from an important relationship. This is why the body reacts so badly every time ‘wheat’ is ingested. The situation has become intolerable, hence ‘wheat intolerance’, and something must be done.
Ironically the individual concerned is the only one who knows what it is and what to do. Whether or not they are prepared to do anything is entirely up to them! Nobody else can do it for them. Excluding wheat from their diet will help, but it is only avoiding the real issue. If this works and the situation improves, then great! If not, the discontent will continue and make itself known in other areas.
So what is the best way of dealing with intolerable situations that have got out of hand? One of the ways is to take a closer look at the symptoms of distress. They provide excellent feed-back as to what was emotionally and spiritually ‘on one’s plate’ that has become so distasteful. The abdomen swells when needing more space to be oneself, or when reaching out for greater acknowledgement and recognition. The bottom line is that greater stability is required. This, however, cannot be obtained from other people! The mis-leading belief that others can fulfil our every need is a total myth and completely disempowering. It invariably leads to disappointment, with further discontent and unhappiness.
Instead it is a time for self-reflection, realising that, like magnets, we attract those who perfectly mirror our ‘shadow’ self. Those who have the uncanny knack of knowing which ‘buttons to push’ are the best teachers! After all, it’s absolutely impossible to please another until we are pleased with ourselves. So, whatever is lacking can only be replaced by the individual themselves. Once this happens, the situation immediately becomes more tolerable. When completely satisfied, there is no reason to react badly!

Then look at the symptoms, each of which has its own unique story of pain, unhappiness or discontent. Symptoms that appear in the head, for example, such as a headache, are simply accentuating the pain of not being able ‘to get ahead’ because of what others think or due to beliefs that have gone way past their ‘sell by date’. If the throat region is the part of the body that reacts badly, then it could be due to not being able ‘to speak up’ to express one’s true self, or from the hurt from having things shoved down one’s throat. This can make it very difficult to breathe, which is invariably compounded by a mixture of crushing emotions that are protectively kept close to the chest.
These overwhelming feelings, even though they too are generally outdated, determine what is done or not done, as well as the way in which things are done. This influences the effectiveness of the functioning of the upper digestive tract. Moving onto symptoms of the lower digestive tract, these reveal the ability to cope with all that is going on within one’s relationships. Finally, the muscular and skeletal systems show symptoms when perceivably not receiving as much support and backing as one would like from the family and society, or when wishing to break away. The inability to let go of the past can have an adverse effect on the excretory system, whilst the inability to generate new concepts and ideas is likely to upset the reproductive system.
Further insight can be gained when considering what intolerance is being highlighted by the colour of the so-called offensive food. With specific colour being related to specific chakra, or energy, it is possible to pin-point the actual area of discontent. So, very briefly, connected to the crown and brow chakras are the purple foods. Since these chakras are located in the head, also known as the ‘nut’ that carries the ‘seeds’ of inspiration, allergies to nuts and seeds are linked to thoughts and the ability, or inability, to share one’s own brilliant and innovative ideas. Also think of common expressions such as ‘a hard nut to crack’.
Blue, being the colour of the throat chakra, indicates irritation to what is said or not said. This would include foods such as blue berries. Then the heart chakra resonates to green, so any grass allergies or intolerance to ‘greens’ (vegetables) would reveal hefty ‘emotional’ issues, which have possibly been left to vegetate instead of something being done to improve the situation. This chakra is also linked to the breast, indicating that ‘milk’ allergies stem from concerns about mothering. Moving onto the solar plexus chakra, which vibrates to yellow. Here the yellow fruits represent the ‘fruits of one’s labours’, whilst yellow vegetables, reveal the amount of satisfaction and fulfilment from what’s being done or not done.
Next is orange, linked to the sacral chakra, which discloses feeling about creative new concepts and the ability to share these. Awareness of this is through the tolerance, or lack thereof, of yellow foods, such as carrots (‘dangling the carrot’), as well as fish (‘fishy business’ or possibly a Piscean getting in the way?). At the base of it all is red, a very powerful colour related to ‘mother earth’. Not being able to tolerate beetroot or other root foods draws attention to intolerable situations at home or within society.
This literally ‘puts it into a nutshell’! There is so much more to consider. Such as the shape of the perceivably ‘offensive’ food and the part of the body that it resembles. Asparagus, bananas and carrots look to a man’s prominent member, whilst butternut are similar in appearance to the womb.
There is also the way in which the stories can be deciphered and the beliefs unravelled so that they are no longer poisonous or obnoxious and, instead, the very best can be gained from them. Keep in mind that if there is nothing to react to, then mind and body will not react. The dolphins, with whom I am blessed to swim with, as often as I can, put it very simply. ‘Nothing matters!’ What do they mean? ‘Nothing matters until we make it matter, then it matters until we do something about it!’ With the body consisting of matter, it won’t react until we decide to make an issue of something, then it will reveal the issue in the tissue!
So the message is simple. If we chose to react badly then it will ultimately show up in our body. If we go with the flow and are fully aware and appreciative of the present, then we go unscathed and can enjoy the gifts of the here and now.
